Coalition for a Drug-Free California is dedicated to getting kids to adulthood drug-free. The root cause of almost all of the nation's problems are related to substance abuse... a preventable disease that almost always starts with kids. To protect the nation, we must therefore protect the kids by preventing the disease to begin with.
Brain scan technology has revealed that alcohol, tobacco and drugs, particularly marijuana, can cause irreversible harm to a teenage brain. One marijuana joint, according to research, can lead to depression 6 or 7 years later. Frequent use can cause paranoia and schizophrenia and myriad adverse impacts on health, memory, motivation, academic achievement and productivity. Currently, one-third of our kids don't graduate from high school on time, and 6.1 million kids are being raised by grandparents and in foster homes. Over 3,200 Americans die monthly just from drug overdose, most of whom really lost theirs lives in 8th grade, because we failed to prevent the early onset of tobacco, alcohol and drug use. If we care about the future of our nation, we can no longer gamble with lives of our children.
We need legislative changes that protect people and elected officials who value the health and safety of people above corrupt special interests. We need protective policies in schools and enlightened voters. We can help do all of that with a little help from a lot of people.
